Dengue

What is Dengue?

Dengue fever is an unpleasant viral infection spread by bites from infected Aedes mosquitoes. These mosquitoes are most active during daylight hours.

Just one bite from a dengue carrying mosquito could potentially result in illness and even hospitalisation.

The incidence of dengue has increased dramatically worldwide, from around 500,000 in 2000 to over 5 million in 2019. About half of the world’s population is now at risk

Dengue fever is common throughout the tropics, including the Caribbean, South and Central America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific.

With the rise in global temperatures, sporadic outbreaks have been reported in Europe including France, Greece and Spain, and can be expected to increase.

Any traveller who visits an area that has a risk of dengue fever, is at risk of contracting it. You can however, now be vaccinated to prevent Dengue. QDenga is a new travel vaccine that can prevent dengue fever.
